Specialist Sexual Violence (ISVA) Support

Specialist Support for Survivors of Rape and Sexual Assault.

Sexual assault and rape can be a distressing and traumatic experience no matter if it was by someone you know or not. We are here to support you.

Our Independent Sexual Violence Advisors (ISVA) are specially trained workers who are independent from the police and other statutory services.  The role of an ISVA is to offer practical and emotional support to anyone who has been raped, sexually assaulted or abused, including grooming, FGM and exploitation (CSE). Whether this happened recently or in the past.

Every person’s reaction to rape or sexual assault will be different.

Some of the symptoms you may experience or be experiencing are:

· Constant anxiety
· Shock and fear
· Feeling easily started or on edge
· Experiencing nightmares
· Difficulties with sleeping and/or eating
· Feelings of shame and self-blame
· Health related issues

How can the ISVA help me?

 We can help you to stay safe through immediate crisis intervention, including supporting you with medical examination, other health needs and housing where necessary

 We can help you to feel safe in your own home through additional safety measures or move to somewhere safe

 We can liaise with the police only if you want and support you through the investigation

 The ISVA will work with you even if you do not wish to report to the police and access the support you may need.

 We will explore your legal options and can support you throughout the court processes

Our ISVAs (Independent Sexual Violence Advisors) support male and female clients living in Leicester, Leicestershire or Rutland who have experienced rape and/or sexual assault and are 13+.

They are independent from the police and other statutory services so you do not need to be in touch with the police to speak to them.

The ISVA team have accredited training and are there to provide specialist support.

If you would like to speak to someone call our helpline on 0808 802 0028 or text on 07860 923051.
